How to play Skyscrapers

Every number is a building’s height. Fill a 4 × 4 grid with heights 1, 2, 3 and 4, or a 5 × 5 grid with 1 to 5. A taller building blocks your view of shorter buildings behind it.

Play Skyscrapers

Place heights. Match the views.

  1. Use each height exactly once in every row and once in every column.
  2. Read an outside clue looking into the grid from that edge. It counts visible buildings, not their total height.
  3. Match every outside clue to finish. Heights marked with a small dot are given and cannot be changed.
Three buildings visible from the leftThe heights from left to right are 1, 3, 2, 4. Buildings 1, 3 and 4 are visible. The height 3 building hides height 2, so the left clue is 3. From the right, only height 4 is visible, so the right clue is 1.1324SeenSeenHiddenSeen3
From the left, 1 → 3 → 2 → 4 shows three buildings. Height 3 hides height 2. From the right, height 4 hides all the others: that clue is 1.

Find your first height

Start with a clue of 1: the tallest building must be nearest that edge. On a 4 × 4 board, a clue of 4 needs heights 1, 2, 3, 4 in that viewing direction. On a 5 × 5 board, a clue of 5 needs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5.

Select a square to inspect its row or column in Your street view. Choose Left, Right, Top or Bottom. A complete line labels each building Seen or Hidden; an incomplete line waits until every height is filled.

Controls and corrections

Choose a square, then a height
Tap a square and use the number pad. On a keyboard, move between squares with the arrow keys, then press 1–4 or 1–5. Home and End move to the ends of the row. Backspace or Delete clears an entered height.
Check a marked conflict
A repeated height gets an exclamation mark. An outside clue gets a dashed outline when its completed line shows the wrong count. Matching one clue does not guarantee the rest of the puzzle is correct.
Hint, Undo and Restart
Hint reveals one correct height. If you have an incorrect entry, it corrects that entry first. Undo restores the previous board, including its hint count. Restart clears your entries after confirmation; you can undo that restart.

Daily and Practice

There are 24 puzzles: 12 for each size. Daily selects a puzzle by the UTC date and repeats after 12 days. Practice uses the same collection; New puzzle picks a different board for the selected size. It asks before replacing an unfinished practice board.

The two sizes keep separate progress in each mode. A new date keeps your old daily boards until you choose Play today and confirm. That replaces both daily sizes; your practice boards stay.

Progress saves on this device when browser storage is available. If a record cannot be read or saved, the game shows a recovery action. Keep the tab open until the problem is resolved.
